Think again?
Maybe you’re different and you know exactly where you want to be, and what you need to do to get there, perhaps you even know what is stopping you and just need a bit more support making it happen.
Though if you’re like me and the many clients I’ve worked with over the years, the first answer you gave was the one you’ve conditioned yourself to say without as one of my trainers once said ‘really feeling it in your bones’.
It is all too common to gather an unhelpful self-narrative about who we are, what we want and what we are capable of (or indeed not capable of). Many end up unwittingly chasing somebody else’s dreams, don’t let this be you.
Getting clear about what you really want and rewriting what is possible for you and your business, and helping you take the steps towards your revitalised vision is where I come in.
Knowing what you want
Freddie Mercury once sang, ‘I want it all’, whilst this makes for a powerful chorus it isn’t helpful to live our lives this way. If you chase everything you’ll likely end up with nothing. Often we fear letting go of things that do not serve us, this could be because we’ve invested time and money in it (the sunk cost trap) or we have wrapped up our identity in what we’re doing (the it’s who I am trap) or… well it turns out there actually a lot of underlying causes, yours is unique to you.
Another trap I see is when clients confuse what they want with what they are doing to get what they want. This subtle but profound difference once recognised means that you’re open to other ways and paths to get there.
There is no one technique to elicit this, for some people being guided through envisaging your perfect life or client helps, yet for others this leads to more knee-jerk conditioned responses and we need to dig a little deeper and get to the core values of what makes you tick. Going against your core values more often than not leads to self-sabotage.
Once you get alignment of your desired direction of travel and the actions you take, you’ll move faster and faster.
Knowing how to get there
Okay so you have an idea of where you want to get to and if you set a big and bold vision for yourself then the chances are you’re probably feeling a mixture of excitement and apprehension about the road ahead. Taking this vision and mapping out a route to get there will in large part depend where you are at and where you want to go.
The good news is that unless you’re trying to put a rocket in space like Elon Musk, others have done something similar before. Working together we can model and learn from this and accelerate you on your path.
Taking action
Confucius once said, ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’. What a thousand miles, really that’s a long way and I don’t even know where to start, indeed the thought of getting started makes me feel overwhelmed with all the things I need to do.
Overwhelm is one of the many things that kills off dreams from becoming reality, please don’t let this be the case for you. Once you realise you’re not alone on this journey, and indeed you don’t need to take every step along the way to get there if you get the right support.
Equally there needs to be consistency of action, there are many starters in the world but far fewer finishers. Don’t let this be you, be willing to commit to doing the work and with the right support behind you through every phase of your journey you’ll make it.
I would hesitate to say to the finish line as what happens a lot of the time is that as you get closer to one you’ll reset your expectations and move the finish line, which is fine so long as you take the time to reflect on the successes you’ve had along the way.
Still reading?
I’m glad, the fact that you’re still reading means that you’re prepared to make a change and are prepared to put your ego to one side and embrace what needs to be done in order to get to where you want to be.
Chances are what got you where you are now will not get you there, and you’re ready to take that next step. If you want to take it with me the first thing to do is connect with me.
